2009 World's Strongest Athlete Competition - Rules & Regulations

“I’ve kept this yearly event exclusive to my athletes for the past 10 years. I couldn’t hold out anymore…the demand to ‘open’ this event up to athletes from across the globe has just been too overwhelming. It’s the start of a new era…and it’s the start of something very special!  Watch the entire video below and then read on…”
-Joe D.

  • Weight belts are aloud for all events
  • We recommend bringing sneakers & cleats as events may be performed on different surfaces (field turf and/or concrete)
  • Contest is open to all athletes from all sports. The only athletes that aren’t permitted to enter the contest are professional strongmen or powerlifters.
  • In the event of a tie, a 5th event will be added to break the tie. That event will not be announced beforehand J
  • Weights are subject to change (depending on the surface)
  • Contestants will only get one chance at each event
  • Spectators are welcome! There will be a $10 spectator fee at the door. This fee will go towards one of the two event charities.

  1. I would like to compete in 2010 as Parole Officer. What do I need to do to register. Thanks
  2. If we have competed in strongman and powerlifting in the past but not the year of the competition, can we compete?? (interested for next year)
  3. WOW, just signed up, In the Coast Guard and can't wait to come out and give it my all. Thanks for giving us military guys the chance to support all the great causes and to compete.
  4. I would love to give this event a go, but i dont fal into a category... I'm a strength/conditioning coach that loves to get after it .. sadly never done these moves due to lack of equipment (just finishing school, hope to build my collection now!) but I still think I could perform Love what you do DeFranco -- Live the dream!!
  5. Joe, I am joining the Marines to become an officer next summer right after I graduate from college. Am I eligible to compete in the Police/Fire/Military division?
  6. Mike - YES, if you are a state correctional officer, you are eligible to compete in our Police/Fire/Military division.
  7. Coached I am pretty amped up about this event. I just have a question about your police/firemen/military division. I am a state correctional officer do I still fall in this area?
  8. Deniz, I'm sorry but we will not be having a female division this year. But, there is a very good possibility that we will open this contest to females next year. Please realize that for the past 10 years I have held these "little" contests for just our athletes. This is the 1st year we've opened it up the the WORLD, so we don't want to get in over our heads. This is why we aren't having weight divisions, age categories, washed-up meatheads and females. Let us start off by keeping it (somewhat) simple this year and then I promise that next year will be bigger, badder and BETTER! Thanks for your patience...we plan on hosting this event for a LONG, LONG time!
  9. There are NO weight classes for this event! If you think you're too "small", get your weight up lol!!!
  10. Pat, Yes, there are rewards for the winners! First place in each division will receive a BADASS engraved BATTLE AXE that comes with a wall mount so you can proudly display it in your gym, school, home, etc. 2nd & 3rd place finishers in each division will receive "gift bags" consisting of supplements from Tom Bilella's Nutrition Treatment Center or t-shirts, dvd's and clothing from myself and Overtime Sports Facility. We are going to (try) and limit the high school division to 20-25 competitors. Thanks. Joe D.
  11. Are there any rewards for placing? and how many high school students usually compete? is it just age divisions or are there also weight classes?
  12. I am another female that is very interested in competing. Maybe we women can try the HS division? or if you have at least 4-5 females would you consider opening the contest to us? thanks, Deniz
  13. How about a women's division, Mr. D?
  14. Steve & Stephen - I want to see how things go this year with the 4 divisions...if everything goes smooth, we may open the competition next year to "washed-up meatheads". Sorry 'bout that. Michael - I have a feeling that this contest will still be going VERY strong in 2011!! See you then!
  15. Joe, I am very interested in competing but I am out of college and I am not a cop/firefighter/or in the military. Am I eligible to compete? And if so, what class?
  16. This looks pretty awesome. Too bad I'll be deployed during this year's comp (probably in 2010 too). If it's still going strong in 2011 I'll definitely be there.
  17. Hello Franco, I think it's great that you have opened this competition to many athletes. I'm sorry to say I might be out of the country and miss this extra-ordinary event. What about us Master Athletes, 40 and older? I'm 57 and I love competition! Especially, when I can compete and beat guys half my age. I hope you will open this event to all of us geezer jocks that are twice the age, twice as strong, twice as fast, twice as smart and twice as good looking! Sincerely, Stephen
